Ensō Collection - 2021

What is an Ensō?

The Ensō captures a snapshot of the emotion and creative mind in a particular moment. This makes each Ensō entirely unique.

Evolving the Ensō

Each Ensō circle is poured onto the wooden canvas in one continuous gesture. Evolving tradition with a modern take by using new materials instead of ink.

I have always had a crowded mind. I don’t think I’m alone in having the majority of my showers comprised of primarily hypothetical and imaginary situations. Practicing meditation and breathing techniques was short-lived. Over time, with wavering discipline and a new view on stress, I have been better with managing my mind rather than letting it manage me.

When I learned about the Japanese practice of making an ensō ring, that it wasn’t just a circle but symbolic of a moment in time and state of mind, I felt a connection. While the practice is traditionally supposed to reflect one’s mind made free and clear to be creative, I think there is something to be said for the expression of the chaotic, even cluttered, creative mind.
